On 12 July 2026, Unity of Migrant Workers delivered a recycling and reuse workshop for children and mothers as part of the Hackney ReUse Lab project.
During the workshop, families used plastic bottles, bottle caps, cardboard and other clean recyclable materials to create toys and imaginative designs. Items that might otherwise have been thrown away were transformed into new and enjoyable creations through children’s imagination and family participation.
The session also provided families with practical information about recycling, reuse and reducing household waste. Children took an active role throughout the creative process, while their mothers supported them with designing and making their toys.
The workshop encouraged families to spend meaningful time together, supported children’s creativity and practical skills, and helped increase awareness of recycling in everyday life.
Hackney ReUse Lab is delivered by Unity of Migrant Workers with support from the North London Community Fund.
