🧭 About Us

Unity of Migrant Workers (UMW) is a registered charity based in Hackney, London (Charity No. 1213132). Founded by and for migrant workers, refugees and their families, we exist to challenge inequality and build communities where everyone can belong and thrive. Guided by our values—justice, equality and solidarity—we provide practical support, learning opportunities and welcoming spaces that reduce isolation and open doors to new possibilities.

What we do:

  • Education & Skills: English classes, training and workshops that grow confidence and employability.

  • Community & Culture: Inclusive activities that connect people and celebrate our diverse backgrounds.

  • Advice & Advocacy: Independent guidance and a trusted voice for migrant workers’ rights and wellbeing.

With volunteers, partners and local supporters, UMW helps hundreds of people each year access resources, develop skills and feel at home in Hackney and beyond. Together, we turn solidarity into action.

🎯 Our Mission

At Unity of Migrant Workers (UMW), our mission is to stand with migrant workers, refugees, and their families by addressing the challenges they face in daily life. Through education programmes, cultural activities, advocacy and community support, we empower people to build confidence, develop skills and strengthen their voices.

Guided by our values of justice, equality, and solidarity, we are committed to building inclusive communities where everyone feels safe, respected and able to thrive.
